Junta Airstrike Near U Raz Mountain Pagoda in Ponnagyun Kills Two, Damages Historic Site

A junta fighter jet dropped bombs near the U Raz Mountain suspension bridge in Ponnagyun Town, Rakhine State, around 12:30 p.m. on September 13, 2026, with one bomb landing on the creek bank and another exploding in the water near passenger motorboats. U Moe Moe, a 65-year-old boat worker from Lay Kan village, and Daw Soe Soe, 37, from Seti Yin village, were killed instantly; three others were injured by shrapnel. A separate bomb struck the upper section of the historic U Yit Taw (Uri Taung) Pagoda, causing partial structural collapse. The strike came amid the SAC's continuing 'Operation 4926' offensive against the Arakan Army around Sittwe and Ponnagyun.
