Junta Charges Exiled UN Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun With Embezzling State Funds
The State Administration Council accused Myanmar's UN Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun — who has refused to recognize the junta and continues to represent the elected government at the UN — of misusing roughly $2.76 million and over €38,000 in state funds, filing charges under Penal Code Section 122(2), the Unlawful Associations Act and the Telecommunications Law. The junta declared him a fugitive and threatened to pursue an Interpol notice. Supporters held a rally outside the UK Parliament on September 12, 2026 in solidarity with Kyaw Moe Tun, with a further rally planned outside UN Headquarters on September 22.
