Fighting broke out near Kaung Ja Yang village, Bhamo Township, on September 12, 2026, and escalated on September 13 when KIA-led allied forces surrounded and ambushed a roughly 100-troop junta reinforcement column — reportedly consisting largely of newly conscripted soldiers — advancing from Infantry Battalion 47. More than 40 soldiers were killed; survivors retreated toward Si Hai carrying wounded and bodies. Clearance operations through the morning of September 14 recovered 40+ bodies and captured over 30 soldiers alive along with weapons and ammunition.
