Junta Jet Bombs Thandwe Town at Dawn, Killing Father and Teenage Daughter

| Myanmar

At approximately 6:00am on August 16, 2026, a junta fighter jet dropped a bomb on Ward No. 8/A of Thandwe Town, Rakhine State, near 2nd Street behind the former Pho Zee Wa Pharmacy. U Min Naung (50) and his 14-year-old daughter Khun Lait Shwe Yee were killed instantly; a 2-year-old child (Shwe Moe Yae Thaw) and two adults (Zeya Min Lwin, 45; Thet Thet Maw, 40) were injured. The strike is part of a near-daily junta air campaign against Thandwe and neighboring Ngapali since early July that has killed at least seven civilians and injured dozens more. A separate report (IMNA) describes the same morning strike as killing a father and son and injuring six, indicating some discrepancy in victim identification between local outlets.
