Russian Ballistic Missiles and Drones Kill 2, Injure 8 in Kyiv as Zelenskyy Meets US Lawmakers at UN

Russia launched 282 attack drones and ballistic missiles at Kyiv overnight into September 24, in three separate waves. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 227 aerial targets, including roughly 60% of the ballistic missiles fired, according to President Zelenskyy. Strikes and falling debris hit the Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Podilskyi and Dniprovskyi districts. Drone debris fell in a parking lot near Kyiv City Maternity Hospital No. 2 in the Podil district, setting cars ablaze, killing one person, and damaging the hospital's windows and facade along with a nearby clinical diagnostic center; the historic St. Pokrovsky Church (built 1906) was also damaged. The Dukachi jewelry production facility was destroyed. At least 2 people were killed and 8 injured. The attack came as Zelenskyy met with members of the US Congress on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
