Zelenskyy and Trump Discuss Energy Ceasefire at UN, but Kyiv Disputes Trump's Claim of a Deal

President Zelenskyy and President Trump held a roughly 40-minute bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22. Zelenskyy said Ukraine is ready for an "energy ceasefire" — halting strikes on Russian energy infrastructure — if Russia stops targeting Ukraine's energy system, and urged Trump to organize a trilateral meeting with Putin. Trump told reporters that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to halt strikes on each other's energy infrastructure, but Ukrainian officials said they had not been informed of any such deal. Zelenskyy separately accused Putin of using fighters recruited from 47 countries to sustain Russia's war effort.
