Ukrainian Drones Strike Samara and Ufa Oil Refineries Deep Inside Russia

Ukrainian long-range drones struck the Kuibyshev oil refinery in Samara Oblast (about 910 km from the Ukrainian border) and the Bashneft-UNPZ refinery in Ufa, Republic of Bashkortostan (about 1,300 km from the border) overnight September 21-22. Fires broke out at both sites; Ukraine's General Staff said the AVT-5 primary distillation unit at the Samara plant was likely damaged. The strikes are the latest in Kyiv's campaign against Russia's refining industry, which has contributed to nationwide fuel shortages in Russia over the summer. At least one person was killed and 15 others injured in the wider wave of overnight Ukrainian drone attacks across Russia.
