Deputy PM Sok Chenda Sophea Tells Belgrade Forum Cambodia Faces 'Grave Challenge' From Thailand

Speaking at a high-level meeting in Belgrade commemorating the 65th anniversary of the first Non-Aligned Movement conference, Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea said 'Cambodia faces a grave challenge to its territorial integrity,' accusing Thailand of unilateral actions inside Cambodian territory -- including the installation of barbed wire, construction of permanent infrastructure, and displacement of Cambodian civilians -- that he called 'faits accomplis designed to alter borders by force.' He said the situation along the border remains fragile despite the December ceasefire and reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to resolving the dispute through dialogue, the ICJ, UN Charter principles and ASEAN mechanisms, alongside the ongoing UN-sponsored maritime conciliation process with Thailand.
