RSF and SPLM-N Capture Kurmuk; Roseires Dam and Ed Damazin Threatened in Blue Nile Offensive

A joint force of RSF fighters and Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N, Abdul Aziz al-Hilu faction) captured Kurmuk, a strategic town on the Ethiopian border in Blue Nile State. Approximately 3,000 fighters staged from Ethiopia's Benishangul-Gumuz region (Asosa and Dul areas), with Sudan formally accusing Ethiopia of facilitating the attack. The SAF's 16th Infantry Brigade commander confirmed SAF withdrawal from the town. At least 30+ civilians were killed in fighting and shelling, and the Sudan Doctors Network reported the destruction of Kurmuk's hospital and pharmacy. Over 73,000 people fled toward Ed Damazin. The fall of Kurmuk opened the path toward the Geissan district and threatened Ed Damazin, the state capital, and the Roseires Dam — Sudan's second-largest hydroelectric facility. The RSF-SPLM-N alliance marked a significant expansion of the conflict's geographic scope.
