United Airlines Flight 93 crashes in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all 44 people on board. Passengers and crew, having learned of the other attacks by phone, voted to storm the cockpit and attempt to retake the aircraft. The hijacker-pilot rolled the aircraft and crashed it into a reclaimed strip mine. The intended target is believed to have been the U.S. Capitol or the White House.
