Pentagon Struck by American Airlines Flight 77

American Airlines Flight 77 strikes the western facade of the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, killing all 64 aboard and 125 people inside the building for a total of 189 deaths. The Pentagon had recently been renovated in the struck section, and blast-resistant windows and reinforced construction prevented worse casualties. Survivors and nearby personnel immediately begin rescue operations.
