Ayotzinapa: FGR Opens New Investigation Lines at Iguala Funeral Homes and Semefo

| Peña Nieto (2012–2018)

The Special Unit for Investigation and Litigation for the Ayotzinapa Case (UEILCA) secured facilities of the Medical Examiner's Service (Semefo) and funeral homes 'El Ángel' and 'Rueda' in Iguala, Guerrero, opening new investigation lines focused on the potential disposal of the students' remains through these establishments. The development came weeks after the resignation of UEILCA head Rosendo Gómez Piedra, who left after more than two years amid criticism from President Sheinbaum that his work lacked sufficient analytical depth. Families of the 43 disappeared students expressed distrust in the new investigative directions, noting that six parents had already died without learning what happened to their children.
