Mexican Court Ratifies Arrest Warrant Against Tomás Zerón for Ayotzinapa Cover-Up
Mexico's First Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters ratified the arrest warrant against Tomás Zerón de Lucio — former director of Mexico's Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) and alleged architect of the 'verdad histórica' cover-up — on charges of forced disappearance, torture, and embezzlement in connection with the Ayotzinapa case. Zerón fled to Israel on August 13, 2019, before he could be detained. Mexico lacks a bilateral extradition treaty with Israel, and as of August 2025 the extradition request remained stalled despite the court's reaffirmation of the warrant.
