FGR Recovers MXN $62.8 Million in State Reparations from Estafa Maestra Officials

| Peña Nieto (2012–2018)

Mexico's FGR (Fiscalía General de la República) obtained a court-ordered state reparation of 62.8 million pesos from two former officials implicated in the 'Estafa Maestra' corruption scheme — the MXN $7.67 billion fraud carried out during Peña Nieto's administration by routing federal funds through 11 public universities to ghost companies. The recovery represented a partial accounting of the massive fraud, which had largely escaped criminal consequences after SCJN acquitted former SEDESOL Secretary Rosario Robles in October 2024.
