Junta Airstrike Kills 14 Near Monastery in Kyauk Gyi Village, Thandwe Township
Around 1:00pm on August 10, 2026, a junta fighter jet circled Kyauk Gyi village — between Thandwe and Gwa in AA-controlled Rakhine State — for about 20 minutes before dropping three high-explosive bombs near Dhamma Yaung Chi monastery. At least 14 people were killed (11 females and 3 males, ages 9 to 88) and 11 injured; around 20 nearby houses and buildings were damaged. The Arakan Army said the strike was part of a wider week-long air campaign across Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Thandwe, Gwa, Kyeintali, and Virathani townships, as the junta leans on air power after sustaining heavy ground-combat losses.
