Junta 'Area Clearance' Operations Around Dawei SEZ Kill 6 Civilians, Displace ~1,000

Deputy Commander-in-Chief Kyaw Swar Lin ordered 'area clearance' operations to secure the stalled Dawei Special Economic Zone in Tanintharyi Region, deploying nearly 1,000 troops to sweep Yebyu Township beginning July 9, 2026. By the time the operation was reported on August 2, the sweep had killed 6 civilians — including a Buddhist monk and a minor — arrested 13 people, and displaced approximately 1,000 people from around 40 villages.
