Junta Troops Shoot IDP Fishermen Near Sittwe-Rathedaung Border — One Killed

Junta forces opened fire on three displaced fishermen near Nanthar Island, on the Sittwe-Rathedaung border in Rakhine State, on August 3, 2026, killing U Nyunt Chay (47), an IDP from Aung Taing village, and wounding two others (U A Poo Chay and U Maung Maung Tun). The shooting occurred as the Arakan Army's advance pushed to within roughly 2 km of Sittwe, the last major Rakhine State town in junta hands.
