Heavy Fighting Prompts Highest Alert in Kathar District, Sagaing; Clashes in Magway and Chin State

Heavy fighting in Kathar District, Sagaing Region, prompted the Kathar District Battalion (3) to issue its highest alert level to civilians on July 24, 2026, with restrictions placed on the Bhamo-Mandalay Union Road. In Natmauk Township, Magway Region, an exchange of fire with the junta's 'Gwaygone Communication Force' left a junta colonel seriously injured and one junta soldier dead. In Tedim Township, Chin State, the Zomi Revolutionary Army engaged junta forces, killing six junta soldiers and allied fighters. Separately, in Myaing Township, Magway Region, the bodies of local civilians killed by junta troops were found, and Thinma Village was set on fire by junta soldiers for two consecutive days. In Bago Region, 500 prisoners — including 100 male political detainees — were transferred from Taungoo Prison to Tharyarwady Prison.
