Ayadaw Township (Sagaing): SAC Conducts 110+ Aerial Attacks During Entire Thingyan Festival Period

| Myanmar

Ayadaw Township in central Sagaing Region was subjected to over 110 aerial attacks by Myanmar military aircraft across the Thingyan Water Festival period (April 13–17, 2026), including on April 16. Ayadaw Township sits on critical PDF supply and movement corridors in central Sagaing; the SAC has subjected it to one of the highest concentrations of aerial attacks of any single township. The 110+ attack count during a 5-day holiday period represents approximately 22 attacks per day — a figure far exceeding what even the SAC's own propaganda would justify as counter-insurgency. These operations include fixed-wing jet strikes, helicopter gunship operations, and gyrocopter low-altitude attacks on villages and farmland. The pace of aerial operations during Thingyan was among the highest recorded in recent months, directly contradicting the SAC's image management around the Buddhist New Year period. Many Ayadaw residents had preemptively fled to jungle shelters before the festival began.
