Junta Forces Torture and Kill 17-Year-Old Detainee in Yesagyo Township — Body Dumped in River

A 17-year-old detained by Myanmar junta forces in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, was tortured and killed between April 14–16, 2026; the victim's body was subsequently dumped in a river. The case is consistent with the SAC's documented pattern of extrajudicial executions, particularly of young people suspected of supporting the resistance. Yesagyo Township in Magway Region has seen increased resistance activity as PDF units extend operations southward from Sagaing. Junta forces have conducted sweeps arresting young civilians as suspected PDF sympathizers, often using them as intelligence sources through torture before executing them. Disposing of bodies in rivers — used to prevent proper burial and obstruct documentation — mirrors dozens of cases documented by Fortify Rights, AAPP, and Human Rights Watch across Sagaing and Magway regions. AAPP documents over 2,000 deaths in SAC detention — a figure widely considered a severe undercount, as many families are never notified and bodies are never returned.
