TNLA/PSLF Issues Statement Welcoming Min Aung Hlaing's Government — Major Three Brotherhood Alliance Fracture
On April 15, the Palaung State Liberation Front / Ta'ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) Central Executive Committee issued a formal statement welcoming the new government formed by Min Aung Hlaing following his April 10 presidential inauguration. The statement represents an extraordinary political reversal for TNLA — the organization that co-founded the Three Brotherhood Alliance and co-launched Operation 1027 in October 2023 alongside MNDAA and the Arakan Army. TNLA's shift toward political accommodation is widely attributed to sustained Chinese diplomatic pressure, as China has consistently sought to prevent resistance forces from achieving a complete military victory that could destabilize the border region. China has particularly pressed TNLA and MNDAA (historically China-aligned EAOs) to disengage from full-scale military operations and return to ceasefire arrangements. The TNLA statement breaks explicitly from the NUG-led resistance coalition's position that Min Aung Hlaing's inauguration has no legitimacy. MNDAA's position has not been publicly clarified as of April 15. The fracture raises questions about whether the Three Brotherhood Alliance can sustain coordinated military operations, and whether TNLA's territorial gains in northern Shan State will be consolidated or negotiated away in subsequent talks.
