UK Imposes Sanctions on Triad Leader Running Myawaddy Scam Compound
On March 26, the United Kingdom imposed targeted sanctions on Wan Kuok Koi (known as 'Broken Tooth'), a Macau-based organized crime figure and triad leader who owns and operates a major scam compound in DKBA-controlled territory near Myawaddy, Karen State. The Prince Group (Cambodia-based) was also sanctioned. The UK sanctions followed similar designations by the US and Canada. Justice For Myanmar and anti-trafficking organizations had campaigned for the measures for months. The sanctions target the financial infrastructure enabling large-scale online fraud and human trafficking operations that have exploited thousands of people across Southeast Asia, many of them trafficked from Thailand, China, and other countries.
