Junta-Organized Elections Held — Widely Condemned

The SAC/junta organized general elections between December 28, 2025 and January 25, 2026. The NUG, major ethnic parties, ASEAN, the US, EU, and the UN condemned the elections as illegitimate, noting that Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD were banned from participating, elections could not be held in conflict-affected areas (covering most of the country), and the military maintained override powers under the 2008 constitution. Voter turnout was reported as extremely low in areas that held polls.
