INE Approves 10.84 Billion Pesos in 2027 Party Financing, Down From Original Ask

| MX Politics

The INE's General Council approved on August 18 a draft 2027 institutional budget of 31.43 billion pesos and set federal public financing for national parties and independent candidacies at 10.84 billion pesos — below the roughly 36.1 billion peso figure Morena, PAN, and PRI had jointly criticized as excessive on August 6. Morena will receive the largest share at 2.685 billion pesos, followed by PAN (1.332 billion), PRI (1.008 billion), Movimiento Ciudadano (995 million), PVEM (854 million), and PT (688 million); newly registered parties Somos México and PAZ receive smaller allocations. Electoral councillor Norma De La Cruz said the proposal also sets aside a precautionary 4.74 billion pesos for a possible popular consultation or recall referendum. The full council must still ratify the anteproyecto before it goes to the Chamber of Deputies' Budget Commission.
