Morena Escalates Push to Strip PRI Leader Alito Moreno's Congressional Immunity
Morena's Chamber of Deputies spokesman Arturo Ávila Anaya publicly renewed pressure on August 12 to strip PRI national president Alejandro 'Alito' Moreno Cárdenas of his congressional immunity (desafuero), citing a request for a declaration of procedence originally filed by Campeche's Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office in July 2025 over an alleged diversion of roughly 83.5 million pesos during Moreno's 2015–2019 term as Campeche governor. Ávila cited unresolved investigations and alleged patrimonial irregularities involving properties tied to Moreno's family network. The petition remained pending before the Chamber's Sección Instructora (Instructing Section) without a resolution date. Moreno rejected the accusations as political persecution, arguing Morena was retaliating after the INE ordered him in July to stop calling Morena a 'narco-party.'
