Morena Names First Five State Coordinators Toward 2027 Governorships

Morena unveiled its first five 'state coordinators for the Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty' — the de facto pre-candidates for governor — on August 25–26, ahead of the formal 2027 electoral process for 17 governorships. Nora Ruvalcaba Gámez was named for Aguascalientes, Pablo Gutiérrez Lázarus for Campeche, and Rosa María Bayardo Cabrera for Colima on August 25; Senator Imelda Castro Castro was added for Sinaloa and Santiago Nieto Castillo for Querétaro shortly after. Castro's presentation at the World Trade Center in Mexico City drew chants of 'coordinadora, coordinadora!' from supporters. Twelve of the 17 contested states remained undefined, and Morena's governing allies PT and PVEM had not yet endorsed most of the picks.
