Ovidio Guzmán 'El Ratón' Extradited to U.S.

Ovidio Guzmán López, son of El Chapo, was extradited to the United States on drug trafficking charges. Mexico had failed to capture him in 2019 in the 'Culiacanazo' incident when the Army freed him after cartel violence. His second arrest in January 2023 triggered cartel-organized blockades and violence in Sinaloa and Culiacán. His extradition was seen as AMLO signaling cooperation with the U.S. ahead of the 2024 election.
