Cartel Attacks Culiacán International Airport; Flights Suspended

Cartel gunmen attacked Bachigualato Federal International Airport, targeting both the civilian terminal and Military Air Base No. 10. Armed men used .50 caliber rifles to shoot at military aircraft in flight. An Aeroméxico airliner and a Mexican military aircraft on the tarmac were struck by gunfire. The airport was temporarily closed. Aeroméxico diverted flights from Los Mochis and Mazatlán airports as violence spread; flights from Ciudad Obregón International Airport in Sonora were also cancelled after truck attacks on Highway 15.
