National Guard Confronts Ovidio's Convoy in Jesús María

A National Guard patrol in the small town of Jesús María (approximately 25 km north of central Culiacán) identified a convoy of six armored bulletproof pickup trucks. When the patrol attempted to inspect the vehicles, the occupants opened fire, initiating an intense firefight. Ovidio Guzmán López and his security detail retreated to a fortified estate nearby, barricading themselves inside.
