Infantry Colonel Juan José Moreno Orzua Ambushed and Killed in Escuinapa
Infantry Colonel Juan José Moreno Orzua, commander of the 43rd Infantry Battalion based in Tepic, Nayarit, was ambushed by Los Chapitos hitmen near Escuinapa in southern Sinaloa along with his four bodyguards. All five were killed. The colonel died at approximately 2:50 PM from a gunshot wound to the right hemothorax. His killing was a targeted response to his unit's role in supporting Operation Ovidio and represented the most senior military casualty of the operation.
