Ovidio Guzmán López Arrested After Special Forces Storm Compound

Mexican Army special forces units supported by helicopter gunships stormed Ovidio's fortified compound near Jesús María. After a battle lasting several hours, 18 individuals were arrested — including Ovidio Guzmán López. He was immediately loaded onto a military helicopter to prevent any possibility of negotiated release, repeating the scenario of 2019 in reverse. He was flown directly to Mexico City and transferred to El Altiplano maximum-security federal prison (CEFERESO No. 1 in Almoloya de Juárez) on January 6.
