Battle of San Jacinto — Texas Wins Independence

| Mexico-US Wars

In a surprise 18-minute assault on Santa Anna's encamped army near the San Jacinto River, Sam Houston's 910-man Texan force attacked during the Mexican siesta hour. Shouting 'Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!', Texans killed approximately 630 Mexican soldiers and captured nearly 700. Houston was wounded. Santa Anna was captured disguised as a common soldier the following day. It was a decisive and total victory.
