Goliad Massacre — 342 Texan POWs Executed

| Mexico-US Wars

On Palm Sunday, by direct order of Santa Anna invoking a Mexican law mandating execution of pirates, approximately 342 Texan prisoners including wounded soldiers were marched out of Presidio La Bahía and shot. Fannin was among the last executed. A small number escaped. The massacre, committed after surrender, deeply outraged US public opinion and became a second rallying cry alongside the Alamo.
