Kargil War Ends — LOC Fully Restored (Vijay Diwas)

By July 26, 1999, India had evicted Pakistani forces from all occupied Indian territory, restoring the Line of Control. India declared July 26 as 'Vijay Diwas' (Victory Day). The Kargil conflict cost India approximately 527 soldiers killed and Pakistan an estimated 350–1,000 killed (Pakistan disputes exact figures). It was the first conventional war between two nuclear-armed states.
