Israeli High Court Grants Government 2-Month Extension for October 7 Investigation Decision
Israel's High Court of Justice granted the government an additional two months to decide on the structure and scope of the formal investigation into the intelligence and security failures of October 7, 2023. The politically sensitive issue has been delayed repeatedly by the Netanyahu government, with critics accusing the Prime Minister of stalling an inquiry that could implicate him personally. Army Chief of Staff General Herzi Halevi, Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar, and other senior officials have already announced their departures or resigned, each acknowledging personal responsibility for the failures. The State Comptroller investigation is ongoing, but a formal state commission of inquiry — equivalent to a judicial inquiry — has not yet been established. Opposition parties and October 7 survivors have pressed for immediate formal accountability proceedings.
