UN Security Council: Gaza Ceasefire 'Increasingly Fragile' as Toll Since Truce Reaches 824 Killed
UN Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari formally briefed the UN Security Council on April 28, 2026 that the Gaza ceasefire is 'increasingly fragile.' Khiari stated that approximately 800 Palestinians (including 200+ children) and 7 humanitarian workers have been killed since the October 10, 2025 ceasefire began, with 1.8 million people remaining displaced and dependent on aid. He noted that Phase 2 negotiations on Hamas disarmament and a permanent political solution have produced no agreement, raising the risk of a return to full hostilities. The UN formal statement came on the same day the OIC Palestine Observatory updated its count to 824 killed and 2,318 wounded by Israeli forces since the ceasefire. The ASG's remarks followed the UNSC open debate on the Palestinian question held earlier in the week, during which members pressed for Phase 2 implementation and unimpeded humanitarian access.
