Ebola Deaths Reach 3,639 as Outbreak Spreads to Seventh Province

DRC's INSP reported 7,541 confirmed Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) cases and 3,639 deaths as of Sept 18 data (48.3% case-fatality rate), after an imported case confirmed Sept 10 spread the outbreak to a seventh province, Sud-Ubangi, covering roughly 240,000 sq km. Officials said the national curve had reached a plateau but cautioned the epidemic was not under control; Ituri, the epicenter, still recorded roughly 300 new cases and 160 deaths in the preceding week.
