Triple Killing of Money Changer, Wife and Moto-Taxi Driver Prompts Security Demands in Beni

Unidentified armed attackers killed a money changer, his wife and a motorcycle-taxi driver in the Butanuka neighborhood of Beni's Beu commune during the week of Sept 9-16; no suspects had been identified as of Radio Okapi's Sept 17 report. The city's money-changers' corporation demanded intensified security patrols and the involvement of intelligence and police services to identify perpetrators, citing a pattern of armed robberies targeting cash-handling currency traders. Beni Mayor Jacob Nyofondo Te Kodale said security services were mobilized to pursue the killers and restore order.
