FARDC Communiqué Claims 14 AFC/M23 Fighters Killed Across Walikale, Masisi and Rutshuru

A FARDC military communiqué issued Thursday, Sept 17, 2026 by spokesperson Major Dieudonné Kasereka said combined FARDC-Wazalendo forces killed 14 AFC/M23 combatants, wounded 13 and captured 3 in fighting across Walikale, Masisi and Rutshuru territories between Sept 15-17, while recovering the strategic Miko and Remeka hills and the Kasheke village center. The army said 3 Wazalendo (VDP) fighters were killed and 8 weapons were seized from rebel positions. Kasereka said FARDC forces "will defend ourselves, because we must respond appropriately to all these provocations." AFC/M23 did not publicly confirm the toll.
