AFC/M23-Wazalendo Fighting Spreads From Kalehe Into Masisi

Clashes between AFC/M23 and pro-government Wazalendo fighters that began in early August around Bunje, Chabikere, Mpanama and Katale in Kalehe territory's Ziralo grouping (South Kivu), with FARDC accusing M23 of using 82mm mortars, continued through Aug 11-13 near Chambombo, Kazinga and Lumbishi. By Aug 17, fighting had spread into Masisi territory's Ufamandu I grouping (North Kivu), with heavy artillery fire reported around Remeka, Katuundu, Biriko and Kashovu villages. Several hundred families were displaced; pro-government and M23 sources disputed which side held the contested villages.
