Cuban Communist Party Founded

Fidel Castro announced the formation of the Partido Comunista de Cuba (PCC), formally replacing the Integrated Revolutionary Organizations. The PCC was designated the sole legal political party. Raúl Castro became the party's second secretary. The party structure consolidated Castro's one-party state.
