AIFA Felipe Ángeles Airport Groundbreaking at Santa Lucía

On the same day as the Culiacanazo, AMLO broke ground on the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) at the existing Santa Lucía military airbase in Zumpango, Estado de México, approximately 35 km north of Mexico City. The project converted an active military airbase into a combined civilian-military facility at a projected cost far below the canceled NAIM. The Army (SEDENA) was put in charge of construction. The project overcame multiple judicial suspensions related to environmental and cultural heritage concerns before proceeding.
