Italy Declares War on Britain and France

| World War II

Mussolini declared war on Britain and France, calculating that a quick German victory would allow Italy to claim territorial prizes in the Mediterranean and Africa. Italy's entry opened new theaters of war in North Africa and the Mediterranean. Italian forces were poorly equipped and trained compared to German standards.
