Operation Dynamo — Dunkirk Evacuation
With 400,000 Allied troops encircled at Dunkirk, Britain launched Operation Dynamo, evacuating 338,226 soldiers across the English Channel using Royal Navy vessels and a famous 'armada' of civilian boats. The evacuation saved the core of the British Army but left vast equipment behind. Churchill called it a 'miracle of deliverance.'
