Soviet Union Attacks Finland — The Winter War
The Soviet Union launched a massive invasion of Finland after Finland refused Soviet territorial demands. Despite overwhelming Soviet numbers, Finnish forces inflicted disproportionate losses using guerrilla tactics, ski troops, and defensive fortifications (the Mannerheim Line). The war lasted until March 12, 1940, and exposed serious weaknesses in the Red Army.
