Britain and France Declare War on Germany

Following Germany's refusal to withdraw from Poland, Britain and France declared war on Germany. Prime Minister Chamberlain announced the declaration in a radio address to the British public. The British Empire and Commonwealth subsequently joined, expanding the war's global reach.
