Bulgaria Seeks Armistice
Bulgaria became the first of the Central Powers to seek an armistice after the Allied Salonika offensive broke through Bulgarian lines. The armistice opened the Balkan route to Austria-Hungary and exposed Germany's southern flank. Ludendorff reportedly suffered a nervous breakdown upon hearing the news, and it was the Bulgarian collapse that convinced him Germany must seek peace immediately.
