Ukraine Strikes Russia's Caspian Port at Makhachkala and Warships Near Novorossiysk

Ukraine's General Staff confirmed overnight strikes on September 9-10 against the Makhachkala Commercial Seaport in Russia's Republic of Dagestan — Russia's only ice-free deep-water port on the Caspian Sea, roughly 750 kilometers from the Ukraine border, used as a transit point for Iranian-made attack drones and connecting Russia to Iran — as well as fuel-oil storage facilities near Novorossiysk. Ukrainian Defense Forces also reported hitting three Russian naval vessels — the Zheleznyakov minesweeper, the Admiral Essen frigate, and the Project 11711 landing ship Pyotr Morgunov. Fires were reported at the Makhachkala port's oil terminal and depot. President Zelensky said the strikes were part of a wave hitting eight Russian infrastructure targets that day, including facilities in Moscow, Voronezh, Astrakhan, and Bryansk regions, saying 'Russia continues its terror against Ukraine every day. And every day it receives a fair response.'
