Prosecutors Say Russian Forces Executed 2 Captured Ukrainian National Guard Soldiers Near Dobropillia

| Ukraine

The Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office said on September 11 that Russian troops executed two captured Ukrainian National Guard servicemen near Dobropillia, Donetsk Oblast. According to the investigation, the two soldiers were at a firing position in a forest belt near Dobropillia on September 2 when they were captured by Russian forces and shot with automatic weapons shortly afterward. Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) is investigating the killings as a war crime under Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. The killing of prisoners of war is a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions; Ukrainian and international monitors have documented a pattern of similar summary executions of Ukrainian POWs by Russian forces since 2022.
