Witkoff and Kushner Meet Zelensky in Kyiv, Push for Trilateral Talks After Moscow Visit
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on September 6, a day after their three-hour meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, for their first official visit to the Ukrainian capital. They met twice with President Volodymyr Zelensky and senior Ukrainian officials, with national security advisers from the UK, France, and Germany joining a third session. Zelensky gave the envoys a tour of the bomb-damaged St. Sophia's Cathedral. Witkoff described the talks as 'substantive' and expressed confidence in a 'good resolution,' with both envoys pushing for a return to trilateral US-Russia-Ukraine talks and stressing they wanted a breakthrough before winter. Russia and Ukraine's reciprocal 72-hour pause on strikes against Moscow and Kyiv, agreed to accommodate the shuttle diplomacy, remained in effect during the visit.
